The Importance of Communicating Your Corporate Social Responsibility

What is Corporate Social Responsibility?

The corporate responsibility landscape is changing, consumers are engaging more and more with brands that make a difference and more and more of our clients are now understanding the need for CSR to be one of their main communication messages.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is how companies recognise, monitor and grow their social accountability. By engaging CSR within operations, companies can enhance society economically, socially and environmentally.

CSR allows businesses to demonstrate their community interests, and connect to consumers who are like-minded.

Why is it important?

CSR is as valuable for the company as it is for the community. Through CSR programmes, companies can form strong and ethical bonds with employees, corporations and connect with the wider society. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware to CSR initiatives, and in turn actively seek ethical products when making a purchase.

The 2017 Cone Communications CSR Study(https://www.conecomm.com/research-blog/2017-csr-study) found that a whopping 87% of consumers are more likely to purchase from companies who advocate issues they care about. In fact, 76% stated they would refuse to purchase from companies if their beliefs are not shared by the company. These stats demonstrate how important it is for organisations to not just conduct CSR initiatives in silence, but to also communicate the company’s beliefs and CSR endeavours to the customer.

Corporate Social Responsibility in Action:

There are hundreds of ways in which CSR can be utilised, with many small initiatives delivering enormous impactful change. Here are a few examples of common CSR initiatives that dominate the modern workplace:

  • Charitable engagement and donating.
  • Carbon footprint reduction policies.
  • Improvements in labour rights.
  • Community volunteering.
  • Community and environmental investments.
  • Creating more jobs and apprenticeships

A great example is our medical client, Convatec who celebrate the amazing contributions made to the community by LGBTQ+ people and LGTBQ+ Employee Resource Group (ERG) members at ConvaTec.
