Social Media Trends for 2019
As social media societies evolve year on year, it’s not surprising that our clients and brands constantly have to adapt to new styles, trends and ideas pretty quickly to remain relevant and connected to fans and followers. Very often, social media sites change, evolve and release new features on their apps rather unexpectedly to huge success, with some things however being relatively predictable and end up flopping, such as 2018 announcement and shut down of Google+.
As we launch ourselves into the New Year, here are what aspects of social media we predict will surely be trending in 2019…
Using micro to the max
It was a huge moment when brands came to the realisation that major social media influencers produce more views, follows, retweets and likes than any TV ad agency could ever dream of. However, as the number of influencers has increased in recent years, so has the price they charge per post.
Therefore, many businesses will be realising the marketing potential for a more micro approach in the coming year. Although most are not big names, influencers with less than ten thousand followers seem to be far more down to earth and their followers seem genuinely interested and engaged in what they have to say. Micro influencers are experts in their niche, and are sure to be used more in 2019.
Branding is going to go live
Video content on our social media timelines is going to continue to dominate in 2019. So much so that soon over 80% of what we consume online will be video content. This is in line with the growing popularity of live videos, which started on YouTube and soon found its way to Facebook and Instagram stories, with many of us receiving a notification if any one of our social media friends go live.
With the more natural and authentic way people appear on live videos, it’s a no-brainer for businesses to start to take advantage of this feature and show engaging content, that is ‘ real’ providing a personable connection to users. Definitely one to watch out for in 2019.
24/7 real time
We don’t have time to wait! Now, when people have a problem, they want a solution NOW and their needs to be met NOW, not between the hours of 9-5 Monday to Friday in the time zone of the company’s main office. The issue many businesses face is simply social media never sleeps, people could still engage with or use a business’ product or service at any time of day, all over the world.
2019 will see new technology catch up. Companies are already beginning to use tools that schedule social media content and set up chatbots that target brand mentions in real time and provide responses to customer queries. Prepare for instant replies to your tweets or comments in 2019, regardless of your location or the time of day.
Many businesses are already planning to incorporate these developments into their social online strategy, for many others it will seem like a very daunting task. Thankfully, that’s where we step in! Tweet us or send us a DM to find out more.
