Student Tom Whittle wins paid intern place with de Winter at Liverpool Hope University Insight to Business Awards

Liverpool Hope University student Tom Whittle won a fantastic opportunity to gain paid experience in PR and marketing with city agency de Winter at the 2017 Insight to Business Awards.

Run by the University’s Business School, the Insight to Business Awards see students nominated to attend interviews and give presentations to sponsors – including de Winter – in their chosen field.

Each sponsor then chooses from the students they have seen to offer on a month’s paid internship – valuable experience which adds significant weight to their CV once they graduate.

Tom will work on de Winter’s range of retail and business clients, helping deliver digital marketing strategy, media relations and PR later this year.

He received his prize from de Winter Managing Director Kate Cox and senior account manager Nikki Girvan.

“Congratulations to Tom,” said Kate. “It is always highlighted that businesses want experience, but graduates can’t get experience because businesses only employ you if you have it.

“The Insight to Business Awards are important because they take direct action to solve that issue. We are proud to be a sponsor and we look forward to Tom joining us in the summer.

“At de Winter we are committed to developing grassroots talent and right now we are growing our Liverpool team so Tom will join us at a key time.”

There were four high-quality candidates competing for the PR and marketing sector, making the decision a tough one.

Choosing between the candidates was difficult as they all had different skills, all of which would make them strong interns,” said Nikki.

“When we met Tom he demonstrated excellent creativity, impressive problem solving skills and a mature attitude to planning and processes, all of which are key to being successful in PR and marketing and that swung the balance in his favour.”
