A familiar story for Instagram…new updates are coming!

With the release of Instagram Stories in August, there has been an influx of celebrities, brands and companies jumping on the Instagram Stories bandwagon to be the first to give their followers a behind-the-scenes look at their internal workings.

Now, in a bid to increase engagement with the feature, Instagram Stories are introducing a new update that will allow you to add links and tag people within your Stories.

Also, with Instagram Stories now supporting Boomerang, it really seems that the social platform is looking to de-throne Snapchat as the leading story-telling platform.

What it means for brands

With Instagram Stories latest update beginning to roll out, what does this mean for your brand?

  • If your Instagram profile is verified – great news! – You can insert links signposting followers to select destinations, indicating that Instagram may be heeding users desire for clickable links within content.
  • Boomerang will now be integrated into Instagram Stories allowing you to share one-second looping videos. Unlike the Boomerang App, there a variety of features only accessible in Instagram Stories, such as the ability to use both the front and rear cameras on your smartphone and capturing a shorter clip.

With Instagram’s product manager, Nathan Sharpe, claiming that this latest update will help users build “deeper connections” and “tell a richer story” and with further efforts to take on Snapchat coming in the near future, only time will tell if Instagram’s new direction will pay dividends.
